About Me

I’m an award-winning author and historian based in Sacramento, California. I am also the Director of the Master of Arts in Humanities (HUX) program at California State University Dominguez Hills. The HUX MA is one of the first graduate degrees in the humanities to be designed for incarcerated and system-impacted students. In addition, unlike the correspondence program we replaced, the rebooted HUX program is the first distance education-based program to be authorized statewide by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), which means our students can use laptops and CDCR’s growing WiFi network to access course materials, participate in class activities, and even engage in discussions with other students.

In addition to my teaching, administration work, and various projects, I also enjoy woodworking, traveling, watching movies, and tinkering with old gadgets. Most of all, I relish spending time with my wife, daughter, and our poodle, Eddie.
