A week before December 7th, the day when “all hell broke loose,” Elmer sent his parents their Christmas card nearly a month early. It was probably just as well, since the holidays that year would be decidedly less jolly.
This Christmas, if you don’t have any family members or friends in the military, please spend a few moments thinking about all those families who are spending the holidays apart this year. When my brother was in the Navy our Christmases were never quite whole. Even now, although we live thousands of miles apart, it is different knowing that he is at least home with my parents and his girlfriend, as opposed to him floating on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
But regardless of whomever you are spending the holidays with, I hope you have a wonderful day today and a happy, healthy New Year!
